Comments:
When I was in Junior High, I volunteered to do a history project in which we interviewed the older residents of Cottonwood and made cassette tapes. The tapes were kept at the Cottonwood Museum at the train station. Have you heard any of these tapes or where they might be? Thanks for any help! And by the way... great site!

I'm a Tule River person, born here and returned. I knew grandpa Pixley, lived out his days here in Globe. He plat'd Pixley for his uncle the editor of the SF Argonaut. I have been doing optimization in my Adobe Home Photo shop for old yellowed photos in our Springville Museum (Tulare County), I'll do it for you if you like. Note the store name (Rose)? My favorite cousin Charlotte Rose Henry's family, had a Rose Ranch there somewhere. If you ever have time in Redding, she is "trailor bound" with a bad knee, (sortof) and in the phone book. She worked for the Hist Soc [in the old days]. But she may have some details of Cottonwood not published.

Have two old photos of Cottonwood in the late 1800s as my husband's uncle was the town doctor. One is of his office and the Cottonwood Enterprise nextdoor, the other is the doctor and his wife in his buggy in front of their house which is still standing n Cottonwood. He is buried with a civil war tombstone in the Cottonwood cemetery. Please let me know if your are interested in having copies of the photos.

[As far as location of uncle and aunt's service station near Cottonwood] Well, I don't really remember road names, but I do believe it was on the main road between Red Bluff and Cottonwood but a bit south of Cottonwood so probably 99. My grandmother lived in Red Bluff when I was small so we used to make the trip up from ther when we came to visit. My dad was born and raised in Jelly and I remember crossing the river on a 2 car raft ferry. I guess there is a bridge now. And I looked at a map and don't see Jelly or Jelly's Ferry as a town. I had an aunt and uncle outside of H oker also. Fun memories. I haven't been back in that area in a very long time. Luck to you. Jane

I remember, as a child in the 40's, visiting the service station near Cottonwood run by my Uncle George Snively and Aunt Nellie Emerson Snively. Lemonade was sold and there was a pond with fish to enjoy on a hot dusty day.
